Laboratory Services

The Materials Laboratory offers various services in relation to the study, determining, diagnosis or characterizing of materials and constructive systems. 

For instance, we assess the structural behaviour of traditional constructive systems such as load-bearing brick and masonry walls, or porticoed structures made of concrete and reinforced concrete. We also develop methodologies of diagnosis and tests for unidirectional slabs; we make studies on higrothermic problems and its causes; characterization of concretes and its pathologies; or problems of deterioration and even collapsing of timber elements. 

When the damages in the buildings are difficult to determine and the cases are so complex that the experts experience is not enough, sometimes we are asked for reports and veredicts from which legal proceedings are derivated, which means rigour and quality are basic requeriments on the tasks we carry out. 

This kind of tasks are also the basis to establish specific research lines which, from specific cases, alllow the development of diagnosis tools which are used for new projects, and in some cases they're even innovative enough to publish a technical or scientific article, which will be used for the professionals in the running of their tasks.
