Determining of the dynamic elasticity module MOE


The Young module can be determined in several ways with results that are not always absolutely coincident. Generically there are two possibilities:

  • Determining in a static way, applying a growing tension (of traction, compression, bending, ...) and measuring the unitary deformation caused. The relationship between both measures on the elastic stretch of the determination, is the Young (E) module.
  • Determining in a dynamic way, by means of dynamic excitation (by means of an impact, applying vibration with variable frequency, etc.) and measuring the response in the form of an analysis of the vibration mode of the material.

 From the laboratory a procedure based on a small impact has been refined, placing the sample of analysis of a certain way and measuring the answer with a simple microphone of computer. The signal corresponding to the vibration is treated using a Fourier transform and the resonance frequencies are obtained. From these and the densities of the material, the MOE (Module of dynamic elasticity) of the material is obtained.
